ABOUT
Tarime is located on Tanzania’s Northern border with Kenya. It lies between two of the World’s great landmarks: Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park and Africa’s Lake Victoria. The area is very remote, law and order are held up by society rather than government, making Tarime a frontier old world culture, values and charm. This filters down to the farming techniques and Tarime’s signature tall coffee trees. Tarime’s location on Tanzania’s North border allows it to benefit from a biannual crop, with a fly crop at the beginning of the year and a main crop towards the last quarter. The older trees do generate big cyclical swings in production with the annual tonnage regularly doubling and then halving year on year. It seems an opportunity to impart Good Agricultural Practices that could deliver significant yields gains and production stabilisation. Tarime’s red volcanic soil composition provides the foundation for true Tanzania Specialty coffee, that shows its value in both natural and fully washed grades.
Tasting Notes
